About Our School
Summer Hill School, acquired from Chesterfield County by the annexation of 1942, was named for the community in which it is located. The original 1919 building was a four-room school with a half-basement. In 1937, Chesterfield County built a brick addition with classrooms and auditorium. After the annexation, a cafeteria and six primary grade classrooms were added in 1951. In 1984, the general office area was renovated and a classroom addition was built. In 2016, Summer Hill became home to 14 Preschool Classrooms. Currently Summer Hill houses 13 Early Childhood Education classrooms that include 1 Head Start 3 year old, 1 Head Start 4 year old, 1 Early Childhood Special Education, 1 VPI Preschool Inclusion Education, 5 VPI 4 year old, 2 VPI 3 year old, and 1 VPI mixed age classes.

Summer Hill Preschool will ensure that early literacy, early mathematic, and social-emotional skills are developed by addressing the unique needs of its culturally diverse preschool population to guarantee students are prepared to ROAR to success in Kindergarten and beyond.
- Each student will benefit developmentally from effective communication and involvement of the school staff, family, caregivers, and the community.
- Each student will learn to embrace diversity and demonstrate positive social-emotional and school-readiness skills to prepare for success in Kindergarten and beyond.
- Each student will receive opportunities to develop early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills and develop fine and gross motor skills through targeted instruction and play to maximize educational experiences.
